Lead Supplier Liaison Engineer – China
About Stark
Stark builds the world’s most powerful electric motorcycles. From the VARG MX to the road-legal VARG EX & SM, our bikes have won world championships and are engineered to outperform anything with a combustion engine.
We’re based in Sant Boi, Barcelona, growing fast (77% year-on-year), and building a team that will take us even further. If you want to work on a product that people are genuinely obsessed with, this is it.
Stark will become the global market leader in premium motorcycles. Building premium motorcycles requires innovation and we need your help to make us succeed
Our mission is to lead the way towards a sustainable motorcycle industry, by reducing plastic and CO2 pollution.
This will be achieved by building sustainable products that are superior to traditional technology in terms of Performance, Emotion and Design.
What You’ll Do
Act as the primary on-the-ground bridge between Stark Future’s engineering teams in Barcelona and our component suppliers across China, ensuring requirements, specifications and feedback flow accurately and quickly in both directions.
Translate engineering intent into clear, unambiguous technical communication for suppliers – covering drawings, specifications, tolerances, test requirements and change requests – and translate supplier responses, constraints and proposals back to the engineering teams.
Resolve language, time-zone and cultural gaps that slow development, holding near-real-time contact with suppliers during European off-hours so issues are unblocked overnight rather than waiting a full cycle.
Visit supplier sites regularly across mechanical, electronics, powertrain and battery component areas to review progress first-hand, inspect samples and tooling, and accelerate problem solving in person.
Drive supplier development and on-time delivery of prototype and production parts, tracking milestones, escalating risks early, and pushing suppliers to meet Stark Future’s timelines and quality standards.
Coordinate sample submission, first-article inspection and design iterations – chasing samples, organising measurements and tests, and ensuring fast, documented feedback loops between supplier and engineer.
Clarify and document technical questions from suppliers, gathering the right answers from the relevant Stark Future engineers and closing them out without unnecessary delay.
Support sourcing and quality teams during supplier selection, technical reviews, capability assessments and audits, providing local technical judgement on whether a supplier can meet design intent.
Maintain clear written records of decisions, agreements, open points and action items with each supplier, so nothing is lost across languages and time zones.
Proactively identify recurring communication or process bottlenecks between Stark Future and its supply base, and propose improvements to ways of working, tools and documentation.
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, sourcing, quality and production to ensure seamless integration of supplied components into the product.
Help shape and grow Stark Future’s technical presence in China, contributing to processes and, over time, potentially building a small local supplier-engineering team.
What you will bring to Stark
University degree in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or manufacturing engineering, or a closely related field.
5+ years of full-time industry experience working with manufacturing suppliers, ideally in automotive, e-mobility, consumer electronics or similar high-pace hardware industries.
Based in Shanghai (or willing to relocate), with the ability to travel frequently to supplier sites across China.
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and professional working English – able to communicate technical detail accurately in both languages, verbally and in writing.
Strong general engineering literacy across multiple component types: ability to read and interpret 2D drawings and 3D models, GD&T, BOMs and basic test/validation requirements.
Hands-on understanding of common manufacturing processes (machining, casting, injection moulding, sheet metal, PCB/electronics assembly) and how design choices affect cost, quality and lead time.
Experience driving suppliers on quality, samples, first-article inspection and on-time delivery of prototype and production parts.
Excellent communication, coordination and interpersonal skills – comfortable as the trusted intermediary between demanding engineers and external suppliers.
Highly organised and proactive, able to manage many parallel open points and keep them moving without close supervision.
Comfortable in an agile, fast-paced and innovative environment, and motivated by shortening development cycles.
Working knowledge of common collaboration and PLM/file-sharing tools; familiarity with version control of documentation is a plus.
Background in developing electric powertrains or EV components for vehicles is a strong advantage.
