About Stark
Stark builds the world’s most powerful electric motorcycles. From the VARG MX to the road-legal VARG EX & SM, our bikes have won world championships and are engineered to outperform anything with a combustion engine.
We’re based in Sant Boi, Barcelona, growing fast (77% year-on-year), and building a team that will take us even further. If you want to work on a product that people are genuinely obsessed with, this is it.
Stark will become the global market leader in premium motorcycles. Building premium motorcycles requires innovation and we need your help to make us succeed in building the backend for our AI systems.
Our mission is to lead the way towards a sustainable motorcycle industry, by reducing plastic and CO2 pollution.
This will be achieved by building sustainable products that are superior to traditional technology in terms of Performance, Emotion and Design.
The Role
The Automation Engineer is an embedded technology specialist who is temporarily assigned (“lent”) to a business department—such as Finance, Marketing, or Operations—to deeply understand their day-to-day processes and pain points. By combining strong Python development skills, advanced AI-tool proficiency, and first-hand domain knowledge acquired on the ground, this role designs and builds bespoke automation solutions that radically simplify the department’s workflows. The position demands a high level of independence, creative problem-solving, and the confidence to adopt the best possible solutions with significant decision-making freedom.
What You’ll Do
Department Embedding & Discovery:
Integrate into the assigned department (Finance, Marketing, Operations, etc.) as a hands-on team member.
Map existing workflows, identify bottlenecks, and document manual or repetitive processes ripe for automation.
Build trusted relationships with department stakeholders to uncover hidden inefficiencies.
Automation Design & Development:
Design, build, and deploy Python-based tools, scripts, and integrations that automate departmental tasks.
Create robust Excel/spreadsheet automation solutions (macros, data pipelines, reporting dashboards).
Build internal APIs with FastAPI to expose automation services and connect departmental tools.
Rapidly prototype web-based interfaces and dashboards so non-technical users can interact with automated workflows.
AI-Powered Productivity:
Leverage AI coding assistants (Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development and prototyping.
Identify opportunities where AI models can enhance or replace manual decision-making processes.
Build and maintain AI-assisted workflows (document processing, data extraction, classification, summarization).
Independent Solution Ownership:
Evaluate and adopt the best-fit tools, frameworks, and approaches autonomously.
Own the full lifecycle: requirements gathering, prototyping, testing, deployment, and handover.
Prioritize initiatives based on business impact and effort, communicating trade-offs clearly.
Knowledge Transfer & Documentation:
Create clear documentation and user guides so department teams can maintain and evolve solutions.
Train end-users on new tools and workflows.
Share best practices and reusable patterns across departments.
Powers
• Freedom to choose the technology stack, tools, and methods best suited to each automation challenge.
• Authority to propose and implement process changes within the embedded department, with quick management approval.
• Direct access to department leadership for fast decision-making and priority alignment.
• Creative license to experiment with emerging AI tools and technologies to push the boundaries of what can be automated.
Performance criteria
• Number and measurable impact of automation solutions delivered (time saved, errors reduced, processes eliminated).
• Speed of delivery: time from problem identification to working solution.
• Adoption rate: percentage of department team members actively using the tools built.
• Quality and clarity of documentation and knowledge transfer.
• Ability to operate independently while keeping stakeholders informed and aligned.
• Innovation: introduction of new AI-powered approaches or tools that create unexpected value.
What you will bring to Stark
• Strong proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and tool-building.
• Experience with FastAPI for building lightweight internal APIs, microservices, and backend endpoints that power automation workflows.
• Ability to rapidly prototype web-based tools and dashboards (using frameworks such as Streamlit, Gradio, or basic HTML/JS) to give departments immediate, visual access to automated solutions.
• Hands-on experience manipulating and automating Excel/spreadsheet workflows (openpyxl, pandas, or similar).
• Demonstrated, extensive experience with AI-powered development tools such as Cursor, Claude, or GitHub Copilot.
• Proven ability to work independently in unfamiliar domains and quickly acquire domain-specific knowledge.
• Experience managing or improving business processes in a department outside of engineering (Finance, Marketing, HR, Operations, etc.).
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a bias for action and pragmatic solutions over perfection.
• Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, to work effectively across teams.
• Comfort with ambiguity and a proactive, self-starting attitude.
